When to get in touch

Feel free to contact your act whenever you're ready with any set list requests. You should confirm your first dance choice no later than 6–8 weeks (6–8 weeks should be bold) prior to the wedding. This will give the band time to learn and rehearse it for you, if it's a track that they don't already know.

Contacting too early means plans aren't finalised. At 6–8 weeks, you'll have your venue logistics confirmed, final guest numbers sorted, and a clear idea of your first dance.

What to cover when you get in touch

Your band will want to know your first dance song as early as possible — ideally when you make contact at 6–8 weeks. If it's not in their standard repertoire, let them know and they'll do their best to learn it (though this isn't always guaranteed). Have a backup option ready just in case.
Most bands have a core setlist they perform regularly. You can request songs and they'll accommodate where possible. Share any must-play or do-not-play lists when you get in touch.
If your venue has a sound limiter, let the band know as early as possible. They can adjust their setup and sound levels accordingly to avoid any issues on the night.

These topics cover everything most couples discuss at the 6–8 week stage.
